People 'should be encouraged to buy houses for sale in countryside'
More should be done to encourage people to buy houses for sale in
the countryside, it has been said.
The Faith and Future of the Countryside conference took place last
week with 200 delegates turning up to discuss the future of
Britain's rural villages.
Speaking at the event, Bishop Smith of St Albans said that living
in the countryside is a "long cherished dream" for many people, the
Daily Telegraph reported.
He added that, in spite of this desire to move to more rural
locations, the price of living there could deter many people from
purchasing properties for sale in those areas.
Houses are often being bought by wealthier homebuyers from urban
areas, which discourages residents who grew up there from
purchasing the properties themselves.
Bishop Smith added: "It may make some parts of the countryside
… middle-class areas surrounded by concentrations of people
on low income in towns."
Last month, Genworth Financial revealed that the barrier to home
ownership in the UK is continuing to widen, with 100,000 first-time
buyers being excluded from the property market year-on-year since
2006.
