Weather 'causes rise in property insurance claims'

More homeowners across the UK, potentially including those with
distinctive properties in Norfolk, have been making
insurance claims as a result of the bad weather.
This is according to Steve Foulsham, technical services manager for
the British Insurance Brokers' Association, who said that the
winter months have precipitated an increase in such activity.
He made his comments after the release of figures produced by the
Association of British Insurers, which revealed that cover
providers shelled out around £255 million to homes and firms
for property damage during December 2009 and the first month of
this year.
Much of this was a result of burst water pipes caused by the
freezing temperatures.
Mr Foulsham stated that due to the number of claims made, premiums
may rise.
He went on to remark: "Insurers will be looking at their bottom
line in terms of underwriting performance and ... we could well see
rates rising."
